This Saturday, The Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis will host a benefit show for Tom Alderson, drummer for hardcore bands Crosscheck and Drown. The show, kicking off at 6:30 p.m. and coming to a close at 11:00 p.m., will feature Prison Shiv, Doomcow, Chipped Teeth, New Heart, Mad World and Social Damage. All proceeds will go to Alderson to assist with any financial needs he might have.
According to Alternative Press, Alderson sustained injuries after an alleged incident that took place following a This Is Hardcore after-show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 26. Alderson’s bandmate stated that his injuries are the result of a gruesome beating from band members of Heavy Chains and Suburban Scum. Currently, Alderson remains hospitalized in a medically induced coma.
Since news broke out of the incident, benefit shows have been booked across the country, raising thousands of dollars and donating the proceeds to Alderson. This Saturday, the Indiana hardcore scene will be one of the many that contribute to those donations.
“I booked this show originally as a childhood cancer awareness show for Team Skylar. All proceeds were to be donated to Riley Children’s Hospital. After this happened to Tom though, Skylar’s stepfather brought up to me that we should make this an event for him,” said Cody Dussia, event host and vocalist of Chipped Teeth.
Admittance to the show will cost $10 at the door—a great price for a good show and an even better cause. A donation box will also be available for anyone interested in offering additional funds. The hardcore music scene is well known for their hospitality and eagerness to help one another, and here’s yet another example of that. So, make sure to clear your schedule this Saturday, but if you can’t make it, check out Alderson’s GoFundMe to donate!
“It’s just important for us to show people that hardcore isn’t a bunch of jackasses beating on each other,” said Dussia. “It’s about unity. It’s about brotherhood. I’ve never met Tom in my life, but I want to sell out the venue on Saturday and get him as much as possible. In hardcore, we look out for each other.”
